Privacy Policy

My Movie Case (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a personal movie-collection app. You add the movies you own and love, rate them, and the app uses that to power recommendations. We built it to keep your data on your device and to collect as little as possible. This policy explains what that means in practice.
The short version
- Your collection lives on your device. Movies, ratings, notes, ownership tags, watchlist and taste preferences are stored locally on your iPhone. We have no account system and no copy of your library.
- We don’t track you. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, no selling of data.
- Some features send data to services to work (looking up movie info, fetching ratings, and the optional AI features). Details below.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in the app is stored locally using Apple’s on-device database (Core Data): the movies in your collection and their details, your star ratings, notes and ownership tags (e.g. DVD, Blu-ray, 4K), your watchlist and taste preferences, and cached poster images. This data is not uploaded to us. Deleting a movie removes it from your device; deleting the app removes all of it.
What is sent to external services, and when
To provide certain features, the app sends limited information to the services below. These requests are routed through our secure proxy (hosted on Cloudflare) and are transient — we do not retain them.
| Feature | What is sent | Service |
|---|---|---|
| Search & movie details, posters | Your search text and movie identifiers | The Movie Database (TMDB) |
| Critic ratings (IMDb / Rotten Tomatoes / Metacritic) | A movie title and year | OMDb |
| AI features (optional — requires a subscription and being enabled in Settings) | Search text; candidate movie titles, years and genres; and your taste profile (favourite genres, your top-rated titles and ratings, preferred era and directors) | Anthropic (Claude) |
| Photo scanning (single cover or batch shelf scan) | Text recognised from the photo on your device is sent to identify movie titles. The photo itself is not uploaded. | Anthropic (Claude) / TMDB |
| Subscription | Purchase and renewal are handled entirely by Apple. We receive only whether you have an active subscription — never your payment details. | Apple (StoreKit) |
We do not send your notes, ownership tags, or watchlist to any AI service.
Photos and camera
With your permission, the app can use your camera or photo library to (a) choose a custom poster for a movie, or (b) scan a movie cover or a shelf of movies. Text recognition runs on your device using Apple’s Vision framework. For shelf scanning, only the recognised text is sent to identify titles — your images are never uploaded or stored by us.
Third-party services
When data is sent as described above, it is handled under each provider’s own privacy policy:
- The Movie Database (TMDB)
- OMDb API
- Anthropic (Claude)
- Apple (App Store / StoreKit)
- Cloudflare (request proxy)
Data retention
Your collection remains on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Requests to the services above are processed in real time to return a result and are not retained by us.
Children
My Movie Case is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
- The AI features are optional — they only run if you subscribe and keep them enabled in Settings.
- You can delete any movie in the app at any time, or uninstall the app to remove all local data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and post the new version at this page.
